"Is This You?"

"Is This You?" by Rita Spantideas

Rita is the Office Manager and Treatment Coordinator at The Oaks Dental Center, Ltd.

Has it been a number of years since you’ve been to the dentist? Whether it’s the terrible economy, lack of dental insurance, no longer being a dependent and/or fear of going to the dentist, procrastination has been the best avenue to follow.

You aren’t having any “pain” issues at the moment, but your gums are bleeding when you brush and your teeth are looking discolored…. they don’t hurt so everything must be okay. Not really. It is not normal for gums to bleed. If your skin bled when you touched it you would be very concerned. Cavities can be annoying, but they don’t cause much pain until they start getting too close to the nerve. Once the nerve is compromised, it could mean having a root canal procedure followed by a crown to restore the tooth. Both of these are more costly procedures that can be avoided with early attention to a cavity. Like Ben Franklin said “A Penny Saved is a Penny Earned.”

You are embarrassed that it’s been so long since and don’t want anyone lecturing you about not having seen a dentist. We at The Oaks Dental Center do not lecture or scold if you have not seen a dentist in a long time. We understand there may be extenuating circumstances that have prevented you from going. We are happy that you have made the decision to come see us. Our mission is to partner with you in providing the best oral healthcare to you. We make it easy for you. Just call. We are here to help you prepare to show your very best smile.
