"Is This You?" by Rita Spantideas
Rita is the Office Manager and Treatment Coordinator at The Oaks Dental Center, Ltd.
Has it been a number of years since you’ve been to the
dentist? Whether it’s the terrible economy, lack of dental insurance, no longer
being a dependent and/or fear of going to the dentist, procrastination has been
the best avenue to follow.
You aren’t having any “pain” issues at the moment,
but your gums are bleeding when you brush and your teeth are looking discolored….
they don’t hurt so everything must be okay. Not really. It is not normal for
gums to bleed. If your skin bled when you touched it you would be very
concerned. Cavities can be annoying, but they don’t cause much pain until they
start getting too close to the nerve. Once the nerve is compromised, it could
mean having a root canal procedure followed by a crown to restore the tooth.
Both of these are more costly procedures that can be avoided with early
attention to a cavity. Like Ben Franklin said “A Penny Saved is a Penny Earned.”
